The Handshake

At a party, everyone shook hands with everybody else. There were 66 handshakes. How many people were at the party?
___________________________________________
Answer:
With two people (A and B), there is one handshake
(A with B).
With three people (A, B, and C), there are three handshakes
(A with B and C; B with C).
With four people (A, B, C, and D), there are six handshakes
(A with B, C, and D; B with C and D; C with D).
In general, with n+1 people, the number of handshakes is the sum of the first n consecutive numbers: 1+2+3+ ... + n.
Since this sum is n(n+1)/2, we need to solve the equation n(n+1)/2 = 66.
This is the quadratic equation n2+ n -132 = 0. Solving for n, we obtain 11 as the answer and deduce that there were 12 people at the party.
Since 66 is a relatively small number, you can also solve this problem with a hand calculator. Add 1 + 2 = + 3 = +... etc. until the total is 66. The last number that you entered (11) is n.
Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855) is credited with finding the formula for computing the sum of the first n consecutive numbers when he was an elementary school student, at age 8. The teacher had asked the students to compute the sum (S) of the first 100 integers. To the teacher's astonishment, Gauss was able to do it very quickly by noticing that the sum of the sequence and the reverse sequence produced a series of constants.
S = 1 + 2 + 3 + ... + 100
S = 100 + 99 + 98 + ... + 1
2S = 101 +101 +101 + ... + 101 = 100×101
S = (100×101)/2 = 5,050
The symmetry of the solution can also be observed with a graphical representation:

At it Mr. Jam’an al Harbash!

She’s coming to Kuwait! Yes! But not for ‘Hala February’; since she’s not up to it and doesn’t have the qualifications and level of stars like Yara and Rashed Al Fares! Anyway Jessica Simpson is visiting the US Army in Kuwait!
Her official website quotes:
“Hey ya'll. I just wanted to say hi, and let you know that I am hard at work on my country record, and I can't wait to share it will all of you.
I am heading to Kuwait to do a show for the troops, then back in the studio. I love you all and am so blessed by the support and love you show me everyday!! xoxo jess”
Let’s see what Jam’an & Co. will do about it, or is it only for Ruby? Sorry that was Awad Barrad… all I can say is “ekhs 3al zaman”

AlGhanim Electronics..

It seems that Al Ghanim Electronics don't know what's an Apple TV! Their product description: (Apple TV 40 GB for iPod!!). Actually, Apple TV has nothing to do with the iPod; it simply transfer what's on your iTunes to your TV. In addition, you can download and rent movies directly from the iTunes store and not from your iPod!

The Mathematics Class

All students in the physics class also study mathematics. Half of those who study literature also study mathematics. Half of the students in the mathematics class study physics. Thirty students study literature and twenty study physics. Nobody who studies literature studies physics. How many students in the mathematics class study neither physics nor literature?
*******
Answer:
If there are 20 physics students who all take mathematics, and half of the mathematics students study physics, there must be 40 students in the mathematics class. If half of the 30 literature students take mathematics, then 15 of them take mathematics. Since none of the literature students study physics, only five students in the mathematics class study neither physics nor literature.

Why Not?

Fidel Castro would perfectly fit to be the next Lebanese president. May be he terminated his contract with Cuba in order to sign a 6-month loan move to Lebanon, with a contract extension as an option.
At least, an individual with Castro’s caliber and versatility would prevent any intruder to intervene with the peace and sovereignty of Lebanon. Games played in Lebanon by other powers would be forced to change their venue and time of fixture, none of the current leaders would be able to move an inch when proper pressing and closure is provided. Again, the Lebanese public is able to unite under their flag, a good passer, dribbler, or in other words a captain is needed; if and only if it would happen!
Let’s hope for the best!

QuickOrder is an iPhone application that will allow the iPhone users to order coffee from their local starbucks. The purpose of this application is to save time; instead of waiting in the line for a long time you can simply order your coffee and pick it up as soon as you reach. I hope that this application works in Kuwait in the near future especially that every starbucks in Avenues is full.

Eneloop!

Not that of an appealing name for batteries I guess. I glimpsed the Eneloop rechargeable batteries from SANYO while I was at the Sanyo showroom somewhere in Shuwaikh Ind. Area. I’ve always thought that rechargeable batteries are useless, every time I saw them beside the cashiers at supermarkets.
The Eneloop costs 7 KD, which I believe is a bit expensive, but wait; you get 4- double A (AA) batteries and a charger. The charger is able to hold 4-double A batteries and a couple of triple A (AAA) batteries all in one time.
The Eneloop is part of a Sanyo project which targets to ‘save’ the environment, or in other words enviro-friendly.
What I liked about those batteries is that their lifetime is longer than regular (disposable) batteries, and when batteries (eneloop) are dead, just plug them into the charger for a bit, and you got new batteries!
*Esp. for digital cameras

Yes, this amazing car is 100 % Moroccan. Abdulsalam Alaraqi (a Moroccan business man) used to design cars in Italy and France decided to establish his own company in Morocco. He established his company in 2002 and named it Laraki because of his family name (Al araqi). Laraki currently comes in two models (Fulgura and Borac) and will soon release a new model that will compete with the Maserati.

Goodbye My Lover!

On behalf of FAH, I write this post.
Ronaldo might have played his last competitive match last night with Milan. ‘Il Fenomeno’ was stretched off the pitch in tears as he suffered an injury in his left knee after he awkwardly landed on his foot.
ACmilan.com had confirmed, after medical tests at a local hospital, that Ronnie suffered “a rupture to his kneecap ligament was found in his left knee.”
A similar career-threatening injury occurred to the player (with his right knee) during his spell at Inter Milan in (1998 & 2001). However Ronaldo then returned to be the best player in the World, and the top scorer of the World Cup.
I am sorry FAH for the bad news, and I believe it’s the worse Valentine’s gift I’ve ever heard of. Sometimes they say love is blind, other times its becomes really harsh!
I wish that Ronaldo recovers quickly, and I really hope that later tests reveal that the injury is not very serious; for the sake of football, and not AC Milan of course!
I have always admired Ronaldo (secretly) and with all love I pray to see him scoring against Inter Milan in a couple of months’ time!

Just wanted to remind you about the story.. 1 year ago
The Story
When the curfew was enforced in Lebanon due to some stupid idiotic students of the shitiest university in Lebanon having a go at each other where even an army was called upon to stop this madness, we all happened to be at the same place at the same time. The situation was a mess; no one could leave the “apartment” which by the way became our sanctuary, our home away from home. We all wanted to leave cuz everyone had something to do, guys just coming back from the gym and smell like shit, others waking up to the sirens and ambulances and don’t know what the hell was going on. We all were watching the news waiting anxiously what was going to happen next. Our phones were off the hook; parents were calling every minute and checking to see what happened to us. Some parents were calling every second as if they wanted something bad to happen to us.
All of us staying here are Mac users and I, of course, am a windows user and still did not shift to a Mac. They’re all bugging me why I didn’t shift and even one of my friends made a poem for me advising me to shift to a Mac which by the way is hilarious (will be posted in the future). My friend showed me how easy it is to use and make a blog. He started writing something stupid like “apple rocks!” or “mac is back” and posted it on a blog and accessed it via the Internet. He told me why not we continue blogging and post our writings. At first I thought what a shitty idea why do you want to do that. It’s basically just writing anything in your head and posting it. It’s time consuming and there isn’t any worthy news to post. Listen to this people; this guy is nearly failing each course he took so this is pointless. This will only make him fail more so stop this idea and concentrate on your education. Anyways, the guy didn’t listen and started to share the idea with the others. Because they were so goddamn bored and had nothing else to do, they lied and said they loved the idea and started to write anything that pops into their heads. And that, my friends, how buzberry was born! One of the guys started to write how he loves Hardees and drools whenever the name was mentioned but the article was vetoed and he was later banned from writing about food! Our chairman, God bless him (have to say this or else the article won’t be posted), is a dictator, always yelling at us and nothing ever pleases him. An article must deal with 3 things or it won’t be accepted: ronaldo, the best player in the world, Mac or his beloved Mcjobs (I know that’s not his name but a friend of mine is a retard and keeps on saying it) and the best singer in the planet, AbdulAziz Al Thuwaihi, who of course has a great voice and no one can say otherwise. Now, the site is flourishing and to be honest with you, I’m starting to like it and this is my first article, which hopefully will be posted.

Avenues Fee Parking Trial – Day 1

Last night was a trial to start charging fees for the Avenues parking, which turned out to be a disaster! I was enjoying the atmosphere until the congested parking lot turned into a honking horn festival! I could easily hear horns coming from the parking lot while sitting at a café, reminded me of Hamra street!
The Avenues admin decided to make it a “free parking” day, however, everyone has to take a token when entering the parking lot. On the way out, everything collapsed. It was taking so long, the parking lot was over-crowded, so they had to open up the gates where people swiftly passed by and dropped the token in a jar!
An Avenues spokesman confirmed that the parking lot had 3,000 cars and only 6 exits! And what I personally observed is that the token machines at the entrance were very high/distant to an average car anyway.
I’m not against the 200 fils per/hour fee, but the process was a complete failure! Costumers didn’t even start paying, which will definitely consume more time in the future.
As my source “confirmed”, the plan is to open up more exits to the parking lot!

Ferrari FXX – For Spoiled Kids ONLY!

I wish they had these when I was a child; I would’ve taken care of it more than any bicycle I got!
The Ferrari is an expensive car! The FXX pedal car is affordable but still expensive for a pedal car. However, equipped with a “seven-speed transmission, an on-board computer, disc brakes, semi-slick racing tires and styling” leather steering and aerodynamic kit, sounds like good business.
Pictured above, costs around €1500 , and there is always a cheaper one (€500).

Info-connect !!

Info-connect, or whatever th exhibition was called has ended finally! Nothing impressive, so don't worry if you missed it. Wasn't a pleasant experience at all, crowded with people walking around for no reason. I thought I would find some speakers which I've been looking for, but ended up convincing my stupid buddy to buy the slim USB from Sony, rather than the regular one.
At least I saw Gulf University's new campus (Mishref) on the way back, I wonder what they are intending to do with the old building? Maybe rent it to Hawalli CO-OP!

The Missing Dollar

Three students checked into a hotel and paid the clerk $30 for a room ($10 each). When the hotel manager returned, he noticed that the clerk had incorrectly charged $30 instead of $25 for the room. The manager told the clerk to return $5 to the students. The clerk, knowing that the students would not be able to divide $5 evenly, decided to keep $2 and to give them only $3.
The students were very happy because they paid only $27 for the room ($9 each). However, if they paid $27 and the clerk kept $2, that adds up to $29. What happened to the other Dollar?
__________________________________________________________________
Answer:
There is a saying that you cannot add apples and oranges. If you have 3 apples and 2 oranges do you have 5 apples? No. Do you have 5 oranges? No. You have five fruits, but the number of apples and oranges has not changed. Similarly, you cannot add real money and "what they think they paid".
When we count only real money, the students have $3, the clerk has $2, and the manager has $25. That is $30 total.
Accounting of Real Money
| Before | After |
Student #1 | $10.00 | $1.00 |
Student #2 | $10.00 | $1.00 |
Student #3 | $10.00 | $1.00 |
Clerk | $0.00 | $2.00 |
Manager | $0.00 | $25.00 |
| Total | $30.00 | $30.00 |

Welcome Back

I have noticed that KDD products are back to Coop shelves after their big fight with the Union of Consumer Co-operative Societies. The problem began when the UCCS did not allow KDD to implement their new prices (almost 30% higher). The problem lasted more than a month but it seemed that they have reached an agreement. Its good to have KDD back but what's bad is that the chocolate milk is no longer 100 fils; its 150 fils which makes it 200 fils in the "baqalas".

Can’t explain
What's wrong?

There is something wrong with Al Arabi Club lately. It seems that they cant win a game. We were used to see Al Arabi win and lift trophies every season, but it seems that Al Arabi wont lift anything this season. Is it because of their administration? Is it because of their coach? Is it because of their players? Is it because of Mishlish?? What really matters is how to solve the problem because I am tired of watching the best club in Kuwait play in this way.

It’s a pleasure to announce that it has been a year since Buzberry.com was born. To be honest I don’t know exactly when Buzberry was actually launched but I remember it was during the time when the Australian Open was on. Anyway, I hope that the second year would be fruitful and satisfying for our readers. In the name of the Buzberry team I would like to celebrate this day and applaud my colleagues for the effort done this year, keep it up!
