Goodbye My Lover!
14/02/08 07:21

On behalf of FAH, I write this post.
Ronaldo might have played his last competitive match last night with Milan. ‘Il Fenomeno’ was stretched off the pitch in tears as he suffered an injury in his left knee after he awkwardly landed on his foot.
ACmilan.com had confirmed, after medical tests at a local hospital, that Ronnie suffered “a rupture to his kneecap ligament was found in his left knee.”
A similar career-threatening injury occurred to the player (with his right knee) during his spell at Inter Milan in (1998 & 2001). However Ronaldo then returned to be the best player in the World, and the top scorer of the World Cup.
I am sorry FAH for the bad news, and I believe it’s the worse Valentine’s gift I’ve ever heard of. Sometimes they say love is blind, other times its becomes really harsh!
I wish that Ronaldo recovers quickly, and I really hope that later tests reveal that the injury is not very serious; for the sake of football, and not AC Milan of course!
I have always admired Ronaldo (secretly) and with all love I pray to see him scoring against Inter Milan in a couple of months’ time!

What's wrong?
03/02/08 01:07

There is something wrong with Al Arabi Club lately. It seems that they cant win a game. We were used to see Al Arabi win and lift trophies every season, but it seems that Al Arabi wont lift anything this season. Is it because of their administration? Is it because of their coach? Is it because of their players? Is it because of Mishlish?? What really matters is how to solve the problem because I am tired of watching the best club in Kuwait play in this way.

The Brazilian Maradona!
18/12/07 19:25

It’s really hard finding a caption for this picture. Although no one compares a Brazilian to an Argentinean, I decided to break this ongoing rivalry, because some player no matter how they change—physically—they remain decisive.

Kuwait FA Suspended!
01/11/07 09:47

It's a sad story after all. The Kuwaiti Football Association has been suspended from FIFA (the world’s football regulator –federation). It was reported that the Kuwaiti FA did not comply with the FIFA regulation regarding the election FA elections in Kuwait. Unfortunately that is not the issue here, the Kuwaiti FA acted irresponsibly and now suffers consequences.
- Article 10, part 4 of FIFA’s statutes clearly states: “always to comply with the Statutes, regulations and decisions of FIFA and its Confederation”
- Article 14, part 3 states:
A suspended member shall lose its membership rights. Other Members may not entertain sporting contact with a suspended Member. The Disciplinary Committee may impose further sanctions”
The best part is that Qadsiya’s win on Arabi doesn’t stand anymore – kidding!
** Today’s special: Al Jazeera Sport's Channel proudly covered the suspension of the Kuwaiti FA, where the anchor couldn’t hide his joy when he stated in an enthusiastic tone that the Kuwaiti ‘FA, officials, players, teams’ aren’t official anymore. However, the climax was a phone conference on Al Jazeera Sports hosting Mishlesh a representing the Kuwaiti FA and another FIFA representative.
Mishlesh: “yes we expected it would happen…” - In Arabic: Kunna Mutawaqe3een..
FIFA rep: ---------- Jazeera Anchor: It seems there is a technical error from the source, we couldn’t hear Mr. FIFA rep. ME: That’s what you get when you become asses! Both of you! And no wonder the technical error is from the source, that’s always the case when broadcasting errors occur on Al Jazeera!
Have a nice day!

Thank you, Merci, Shukran, Grazie!
07/10/07 22:40

At last! I don’t know what’s happening, but it seems that the sun is shinning again! I always hated Marco Materazzi for his attitude, but last year, he was my hero. Wining the Italian championship with Intermilan and the World Cup with Italy during a run of spectacular form and class. Everyone around me hated Materazzi after provoking Zidane during the World Cup, but today someone else will defend my opinion.
Raymond Domenech, France Coach, personally admitted: “In a World Cup final you score a goal, you get the opposing best player sent off and then you score your penalty (in the shootout). Say what you want about Pirlo, but Materazzi was the man of the match.”
Merci!!

Brazil Vs. US and It's NOT a Joke!
08/09/07 15:35

I recently came across something two important facts: First, the US has a National Football Team (yes I refuse to call it soccer). Second, they are playing the Brazilian National Team tomorrow in Chicago.
I am not a big sports fan, not a sports fan at all really. But I certainly know that the stakes are higher for Brazil than they are for the US. ‘Sporty’ reasons set aside, Brazil-like the rest of the world-actually cares about football. Americans, on the other hand, are probably rooting for the game because it’s being hosted in Chicago (a very beautiful city with lots to do and there just happens to be a football match going on).
I have to give it to American ‘internationalism’ they form a national team for a game they refuse to refer to as the rest of the world does, and then they play against one of the world’s forefront soccer teams. I am guessing if Brazil doesn’t win, the results will have more to do with “loans and interests,” more so than the game itself!

The Other Way Around...
03/08/07 08:49

Although Inter Milan won the marvelous match against Manchester United, it wasn’t a good start for Brazilian star Adriano. Adriano came off the bench as a substitute for Ibrahamovic on the second half, but instead of scoring for his team, he scored an own goal and gave Manchester a chance to fight back into the game! The Brazilian star promised the Nerazzurri fans earlier this summer, that he will be back at his top, but apparently this isn’t the start that they were hoping for.

Ronaldo.. Fat? I don’t think so..
14/07/07 11:16

Watch out for Ronaldo! He has been working hard lately to get back into shape for the coming season. AC. Milan's fitness coach, Daniele Tognaccini arrived in Rio de Janeiro this week to work with Ronaldo on specific pre-preparation work. A while ago, Ronaldo declared that someday he will take off his shirt to silence all who had criticized him on his over weight issue. Yes SZM, you are one of them..

'Money is Where the Hair Is'-Part 2
08/07/07 10:48

Part 1 (on the celebs category) was about the challenge between millionaires Donald Trump and Vince McMahon (World Wrestling Federation Owner), both have their hair on the line in a wrestling match, which the latter lost and had his head shaved off.
Now, a new challenge. After their bet last season, on whether Cristiano Ronaldo will score more than 15 goals (where he won the bet against his Manager Sir Alex Ferguseon), the Manchester United pair has a new bet.
This time, If Ronaldo scores 20 goals, Sir Alex will shave his head, and vice versa. Last season Ronaldo won the £400 bet, lets if he’ll be up for it this time! Grazie!

Twenty two-year-old Roma and Italy under 21 midfielder Alberto Aquilani fractures a 13 year old boy’s wrist when he missed the target trying to score against England during the European Championship last week.*
Known for his powerful set pieces, Aquilani struck a Dutch spectator as the ball went off the target, however the boy was compensated by Aquilani’s shirt signed by all the Italian squad. Lucky bastard! Grazie!

Showtime Wants YOU!
17/06/07 09:46

I couldn’t care less about the Arabic commentators of the English Premiership League, since I prefer to watch matches with English commentary, which is provided to all broadcasters worldwide by the sponsoring company of TV rights. As some of you know, next season the Premiership will be broadcasted to the Middle East through SHOWTIME instead of last season’s ART.
It seems that SHOWTIME has a shortage of Arabic commentators. Therefore, they started a competition for anyone who has the expertise and willing to be a commentator of next season’s broadcasting team, where the winner of the competition will be offered a contract to work at SHOWTIME Sports as a commentator of the English Premiership League (for the Middle East region). Grazie!

2012 London Olympics Logo Unveiled
06/06/07 10:17

Scratch for London!
03/06/07 14:44

The London Olympics Committee has announced that their lottery venture to raise funds for the 2012 Olympics has been extremely successful thus far. Since the program’s inception in July 2005, it has raised 297 million dollars geared towards planning the Olympic events of 2012! The lotto's motto, “Scratch for Gold,” is an intended pun as it provides the purchaser of the lotto ticket with the opportunity to win a ‘pot of gold,’ and helps London, according to Lord Coe, Chair of the Olympics Committee, to raise the funds necessary to “deliver a legacy in 2012 and beyond.”
Whether you think lottery is ethical or not, you have to commend the effort!

Romario’s 1000th!
21/05/07 14:02

At the age of 41 years old, Romario has joined the 1000 goals club.
He scored his 1000th goal in Vasco da Gama's 3-1 over Sport Recife on Sunday. The game stopped for 16 minutes where the crowd, family, and journalists jumped on the pitch to celebrate.
According to FIFA, the world’s soccer governing body, Romario scored about 929 goals, since 71 goals were during un-official matches.
However, the 1994 World Cup winner joins his Brazilian compatriot Pele (who scored 1,281 goals during his career) in the 1000 career goals club.

Battle of Surfaces, Modernization Sucks!
03/05/07 18:06

Yesterday I saw the weirdest tennis game ever! The Battle of Surfaces, was an encounter between King of Clay Rafael Nadal (world #2) and King of Grass Roger Federer (world #1) on a tennis court which was sliced half clay and half grass!
Federer had never defeated Nadal on a clay court, meanwhile the last have always failed to win on grass against world’s #1. Unfortunately the Spaniard won the match (7-5, 4-6, 7-6), but the legend Roger will always be a legend.
I don’t care how much people loved the event (I loved it too, for a change) but it shouldn’t be repeated or taken into consideration to be an official event. It’s like having a soccer fields cut in half, or to be realistic more, a volleyball court which is a hard surface court on one side and sand on the other.
What happened last night during the tiebreaker in the Battle of Surfaces is that every time Nadal and Federer had to switch sides, they had to stop and change their shoes for the other side of the court. Grazie!

A Royal Gunner.. & a Loyal Devil!
01/05/07 02:37

Her Majesty, the Queen confessed to the public that she supports Arsenal FC, just like her mom. She confessed her love of Arsenal during a February reception at Buckingham Palace, in the presence of the players and officials from the club. The Queen also had a chat with Arsenal's midfielder Cesc Fabregas, she showed how she admires the way he plays and wished him the best for the future.
Even though I'm a fan of the Red Devils, I am really happy that her Majesty showed how loyal she is and did not put boundaries between her and the players. This thing is great. Hope this will motivate the gunners next season.

PS. The Queen is a loyal Arsenal fan, but she did not favor them over the others. She knighted Sir Alex Ferguson from Man UTD, Steven Gerard from Liverpool, and unfortunately David Beckham. This shows how fair the Royals are, not like some in the Arab world!!

Grande Inter, Campioni d'Italia!
22/04/07 23:35

At last! I lived to see Inter Milan win the league cup, I lived to see Javier Zanetti score a goal, and add a prestigious title to his accomplishments. I was really desperate and eager to witness Inter being Italian champions (on the pitch) after decades of draught. I am out of words to describe my feelings, euphoria maybe, as SAK once explained to me!
The Nerazzurri (Inter) won this year’s title with a touch of class and before the season ended, although the bitter rivals, Juventus, aren’t playing in the top-flight league. Setting new records such as 17 back-to-back wins in the league and maintaining a streak of 39 matches unbeatable, was the limelight of the season and Inter have stood again as one of the greatest –‘inshalla.’
And ‘inshalla’ they continue on wining and I hope to see the UEFA Champions League in Inter’s trophy cabinet next year.
The words of joy, delight, and ecstasy underestimate my feelings; I was in tears this afternoon and couldn’t believe that the mission is accomplished. Grazie!

Messidona’s Ad
21/04/07 03:45
“Messidona” that’s what he does best in football. Leo Messi surprised the world with his sensational goal that reminded us of the masterpiece goal that Diego Armando Maradona scored during the 1986 World Cup against England. Actually I think it’s a ‘copy paste’ of Maradona’s fabulous goal. ADIDAS just launched their new Ad displaying Messi’s goal. Check it out. Enjoy!

The Hulk is Back!
25/03/07 19:31

I was flipping the channels this morning, couldn’t sleep, actually I was exhausted after another boring weekend in Beirut but I didn’t feel like going to bed. I was really surprised to see that Hulk Hogan is back to the wrestling business as Hollywood Hulk Hogan. I couldn’t believe my eyes, genuine nostalgia! What’s really amazing that he still has his moves, sudden outbursts after he’s knocked down, and most importantly, the old-school style of shaking the opponent’s hands after a defeat. I remembered my father ten years ago, when he used to tell me that wrestling was all about acting, especially when Hulk Hogan starts to rip his “nylon” shirt apart. Grazie!

Here We Go Again!
14/03/07 00:32

Four days to go, and the 2007 F1 Grand Prix is of and running again, but with some differences, with the most notable, the absence of Michael Schumacher. All eyes are on Albert Park Melbourne, Australia this Sunday; where the Formula One season will spark off once again but this time it will be really promising. Is it Kimi Riakkonen’s year with Ferrari after all? Will Fernando Alonso merge with the youngster Lewis Hamilton to offer the solution for McLaren-Mercedes? Or did Honda finally provide Jenson Button with an efficient engine? In the end, 11 teams, 22 drivers, one champion. Grazie!

Why Aren't We That Civilized?
04/03/07 08:34

The English Premier League community is stepping forward to demonstrate how the world of sports (football) developed into a civilized and compassionate population towards social concerns tackling societies today.
Dr. Noreena Hertz, one of the organizers of LIVE8 (a campaign aiding poverty in Africa), created the Mayday for Nurses campaign, which supports nurses in the U.K. Dr. Hertz targets to involve the whole football community to aid nurses who are the worst paid public servants. Footballers are able to shift public support and government attention; therefore, the athletes alongside with coaches and managers will lead the line to donate a day’s salary (May 13th, 2007) to the Royal College of Nursing, who is administrating the funds.
While top footballers earn an average of £100,000 weekly, the average nurse earns about £21,000 a year! Many footballers such as Ryan Giggs, Sir Alex Ferguson, Jermaine Defoe, and David James have already signed up for the campaign. Football spectators had their role also; a league table shows that Manchester United isn’t on top, whereas Wigan Athletic is the team with most donors so far.
Consequently, the goal of the campaign is to illustrate a major crisis facing a society, where football is a lethal weapon of awareness and cure. On the contrary, we not only face a societal crisis in our everyday life, but also we still can’t figure out how to boast a decent sports community, an ambitious football team, or even brag about a serious accomplishment, at least recently.
Visit MaydayForNurses.com for more info and joining civilized communities. Grazie!

It’s All Yours!

Last time I brought up Sharapova, it was about designing her outfit, which she will be wearing on CosmoGirl cover page. Well today, you have the chance to own Maria Sharapova’s dress, the one she performed with! Not only this outfit is the one she wore at Melbourne (Australian Open 07), but also she signed it. I would have placed the highest bid in the auction, but last time I checked, the highest bid was out of reach. Frankly, although I really love Sharapova, I can’t afford this unreasonably (at least only in my dad’s opinion) exclusive item. The auction is placed on Sharapova’s official website, out of curiosity, or if you value such things (I do!) log on to www.mariasharapova.com -deadline next week. Yeah, I won’t mind joining someone to place a sufficient bid! Grazie!

Dawoud Husein & Kuwait team
31/01/07 01:25

While watching the game between Kuwait and Yemen. One of my friends came up with an idea of assigning Dawood Husein ( the famous Kuwaiti actor) the coach of Kuwait National team. He said that Dawood Husein is a funny person and might boost the morale of the players!! People are fed up with Kuwait’s performance. I hope that our enlightened government do realizes one day ( this year hopefully) that our football association sucks. (including mishlish of-course!)

Australian Open - 2007
25/01/07 01:26

The Australian Open is back again - one of the most exciting and awaited grand slams in pro- tennis. With the presence of all professional tennis players, (the likes of Roger federer, R.Nadal, A.Roddick, Sharapova, and many more) the competition this year has a different taste, since many oppositions seek revenge and recovery to step back in the spot light. The world of tennis awaits a new champion, one never knows, miracles happen. And we wait and see maybe someday someone like Moh’d Al Ghareeb ( Kuwaiti Tennis pro) might at least join the elite, even if it was for the sake of participation in such prestigious events.

Iglesia Maradoniana - When a Legened is Loved
19/01/07 00:44

Diego Armando Maradona the player, the leader, the symbol of Argentina and the icon of millions of soccer fans. This player has took soccer to another level, he made art out of soccer. He has inspired many of his fans, they loved him to an extent that a religion was made to worship him.
"Iglesia Maradoniana (English: Church of Maradona) is a parody religion created by fans of the retired Argentine football player Diego Maradona. It was founded on October 30, 1990 (Maradona's 30th birthday) in the city of Rosario, and now reportedly counts 15,000 members. Maradona is said to be the best player of all time.
Supporters of the Church of Maradona, supposedly from all parts of the world, count the years since Maradona's birth in 1960. It is popular, among the followers of this religion (and also among other football fans), the use of the neo-Tetragrammaton D10S as one of the names of Maradona: D10S is a portmanteau word which uses 10, Maradona's shirt number, and dios, the Spanish word for god."
D= Diego
10= His Shirt number
D10S = Dios = God
