One Million Baht Dinner

Some of the world’s premium chefs gathered in Bangkok last week to chef an 11-course dinner that costs $29,000! Of course, the chefs come from different countries, offering an international cuisine to the guests (yes W.M, this time it was international, regardless that the event held in Thailand). The 40 guests were offered lobster, caviar and truffles. Antoine Westermann, owner of Restaurant ‘Buerehiesel’ in Strasbourg, France, prepared ‘an appetizer of Kobe beef tartar with Iranian caviar and Thai oysters, while his main course will be a tart with truffles and scallops.’ Plus, a unique variety of rare wine, which totaled $200,000, was served to the guests.
The forty diners came from the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the United States; 25 were invited while the other 15 paid the whole $29,000 each. It is sadly ironic that the event was held at the ‘Mezzaluna’ restaurant (located at one of the most luxurious hotels in Bangkok) where across the street, a meal costs $0.75, in a country where a teacher would barely earn $25,000 a year; meanwhile, some oil tycoon pays a fortune for something that would end up somewhere unpleasant in the next morning. However, it is said that the revenue will be donated for charity. Honestly, I do spend a couple of thousands on food sometimes, but in Lebanese pounds! Grazie!
