Eating Healthy

Thu, Oct 11 2012 09:00 AM

Eating healthy is never a hard task. I believe that we have developed to be lazy and more dependant on delivery of fastfoods to our doorstep; meanwhile totally caring less about food value and focusing more on convenience and taste. Two things triggered this thought. A) My colleague showed me that his aggregate order tab from 6alabat.com is around KD3,850 ($13,750). B) My visiting friend said last night that “if we ate this (eating out) everyday in Milan, at the end of the month I will be sick”

B. Now I’m sure we’ve developed an immunity from the proclaimed sickness, but it is true. We can always eat homemade food, but our preference has shifted towards the more delicious which happens to be the unhealthy choice - at least most of the time. You won’t miss anything, restaurants will always be there for your once or twice a week meal at a restaurant. Yes, why not make it occasional instead of daily?

A. Heading back to point A, do you really think most restaurants care about your health? If you think so, think twice. A restaurant owner would go far enough to drug costumers just to make sure they’d come back again (no one drugs costumers here!). Instead of ordering food at work every morning try to get something from home, or at least target healthy snacks like fruits and salads.

Working out is never enough, because if all you do is eat burgers, your face will be like a burger.

    3,850 KWD = 13,688 US dollars

Just thought I’d point that out. Great article though!

Laziness culture develops when people can afford to be so or the government has a welfare structure that allows favours laziness creating intiative-less societies!

You cannot find that culture of delivery and convenience in europe! No way!

Interesting article though! love ur blog.

I totally agree with some points, i however disagree with others…

Food cooked at home does not have to be bland, disgusting, or “NOT Delicious”… i actually find the opposite is true.. eating at home can be both healthier and tastier.

I for one hate restaurants in Kuwait. They think the more oil that is added, that tastier it will be. Our pallet has developed to enjoy only the unhealthy. I think there is a need for a cultural shift in this country!! Being of the most obese nations in THE WORLD (% prevalence) !!! We have to start looking at this as an epidemic. We shouldn’t only think about fitness, but health… The two are interrelated but completely different!!!

Your closing statement killed me! LOL

And I must disagree, restaurants in Kuwait are anything but delicious (with the exception of Edo). Fried in oil used for days and slathered with mayo not to forget the 1000+ calorie desserts are not my cup of tea. A home cooked meal is the best but the key is being creative and inventive so you don’t get bored

Another point i wanted to make is:

When you eat at home, or make the food yourself you actually know whats going in the food: A Pound Cake has a pound of sugar, a pound of flour and a pound of butter. Would you not think twice before devouring half the cake in one sitting no matter how good it is.

At a restaurant the food you eat is a mystery to you… yumm that spicy mayo sauce called something else is soo good, (each dip is a 100 calories)… its weird how everything has mayo these days (i agree with dg, to me its revolting)…

Restaurants in kuwait hid the purity of fresh tasty ingredients by slathering them with sauces and processed ingredients… Here’s a REAL challenge to all kuwaiti chefs/think they are chefs (anybody can fry anything):

-Cook something using 5 ingredients or less (including spices)
    -Containing 400 calories or less
-and competing with all other dishes you have on your menu

Now that will show you the creative chefs from the “fryers”…

Thanks Fahed. In fact, the 5 ingredient challenge sounds interesting! We need people like you to be restaurant owners, not “fryers”!
