The Inception of a new breed

Tue, Jul 27 2010 01:19 PM

Yes I thought the movie Inception is a new breed of fictional movies, something from the Shutter Island school of thought, but again Shutter Island is nothing compared to Incpetion. Just when you thought SALT would be this year’s blockbuster (which I found it to be an above average movie with a lame ending), Christopher Nolan had a different opinion.

Coming from a background which included directing The Dark Knight, The Prestige, Insomnia, and yet another Batman movie on the way, Inception is a masterpeice which will never be matched – whatsoever!

Nolan is seriously my Hitchcock .

Dottie’s true blue cafe

Mon, Jul 12 2010 08:42 AM

I’m currently in San Francisco and many friends recommended that I try Dottie’s for breakfast/brunch. It’s a small place and it serves breakfast and lunch only. It opens from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm- Usually there is a long wait, but I guess I was lucky today, I went at around 2pm and found a table immediately. I ordered 3 Egg omelet with cheddar, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and peppers. I wanted hash browns with my eggs but unfortunately they don’t have hash browns; instead each order comes Dottie’s fries on the side. I also shared a pancake and french toast with my friend. The egg that I ordered was actually one of the best eggs I’ve ever tried in my life. I loved the cheese that they used and also the fries that came on the side. The fries turned out to be even better than the hash brown. The pancakes were good as well, but I liked the french toast more because they were crunchy. Some friends recommended that I try their muffins, but I was so full I couldn’t try anything else..

Oh and my friend spotted an actor called Dylan Walsh who happens to have new movie called Secretariat.

Review: Grown Ups

Mon, Jul 5 2010 08:02 AM

I just watched Adam Sandler’s latest movie Grown ups. If you like Adam Sandler then you’ll most probably like this one. It’s a typical Adam Sandler movie where he has a family and goes through a new experience with them.. The only difference this time that there are some big names starring with him like Chris Rock, Salma Hayak, and Kevin James. Overall, it’s a funny movie, but I give it no more than 3/5. Click here to watch the official trailer on YouTube.

Of course, don’t forget to mix your popcorn with M&M’s

RoboCop 2013?

Wed, Jun 30 2010 11:29 AM

Is RoboCop seriously getting back on the silver screen in 2013? According to IMDB, RoboCop is listed under “in development.” I know it’s a long way to go, but I myself can’t wait. Having that said, what is your favorite classic which you would like to see it featuring again in a revamped (or even a new) version. My Colleague always says she can’t wait for revamped versions of Little Merimade, Cinderella, and especially Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Why Snow White? Wait for the interesting part II of this post.

Meanwhile, what is it for you? I wasn’t impressed with The Karate Kid, nor Alice in Wonderland (2010).

The Damned United

Mon, Apr 12 2010 09:13 AM

damned united

Before jumping into conclusions, this has nothing to do with Manchester United. Frankly it’s even before Manchester were united. The Damned United (2009) is a movie about the greatest manager The England national team never had, Brain Clough (1935-2004); the movie plot is mainly Clough’s 44 day stint as Manager of Leeds United – The Damned United. It has been a long time since I totally enjoyed a movie! Although the producers wanted to pay tribute to the greatest English manager, some feel that there is still an untold story, or precisely the glory at Nottingham Forest.

If you are a football fan or not, don’t miss it!

Veetle

veetle

Forget YouTube, watch it live!

I got exposed to Veetle.com for the first time this Sunday, as I was stuck at work and had to find a way out to watch the Bahrain Formula 1  GP, and let me tell you it is not like other live streaming websites when you have someone directing his web-cam onto his TV then broadcasting it to you. The sound quality was even better than what Abu Dhabi Sport channel had.

ariel

So I went on to further check out Veetle last night. You have tens of hot channels which include movies, TV shows, music, entertainment, sports etc.  Although they had a couple of interesting things on yesterday (like Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, Spartacus) I ended up watching The Little Mermaid! They even had a channel which broadcasts aerobics classes. Most of the channels have a guide of what will be played in the next couple of hours. All you have to do is to download a stupid thing which will take around 5 minutes, then you’ll bee free to browse their channels online and start streaming. The picture quality can’t be any better, you have to try it out, and don’t forget they do have live event streaming!

His Name is Khan

Mon, Feb 22 2010 04:01 PM

My name is khan

This by far one of the most un-Indian movies I’ve ever seen.

Shah-Rukh Khan and Kajol team up once again to give the fans a new/rare identity of Bollywood. Most Bollywood productions are love stories with endless music and songs included. However, this time they have literally shocked the world with this movie, as they tackle critical issues in our world such as autism, prejedice, anti-terrorism, Islam, racial profiling, and more. The film talks about the life of Rizwan Khan, an Indian who comes from a middle class family living in Mumbai. Suffering from Asperger’s syndrome (autisim), a disorder which makes it difficult for people to interact socially, Rizwan challenges the world to redifine the American dream.

Shah Rukh Khan has put an amazing preformance, I really think he even has to be nominated for an Oscar or something. What really is even more electrifying is the fact that “My Name Is Khan” made a record appearance in the UK top 10 Box Office! – BBC link

One thing worth noting: When did we start having intervals halfway through movies? Yesterday’s movie had one, but it was hell of a movie!

Upcoming Movies

Fri, Feb 19 2010 08:16 PM

Salt

The weekend started on a low and was a bit boring, so I decided to watch movie trailers on Apple TV. The first movie on my list is Salt (action, thriller), starring Angelina Jolie. The movie tackles CIA and Russian secret service confrontation; however, we’ll have to wait for this potential blockbuster till the summer. Another movie which looks amazing is Green Zone (Matt Damon – action, thriller, war) is based around the war in Iraq and  The US Army.

wallstreet2

For those who are looking for a family movie, then you have to see the remake of Karate Kid, which is also called The Karate Kid (action, drama), and Mr. Han is Jackie Chan this time. It is also worth mentioning that Oliver Stone has directed a movie starring Michael Douglas. I believe Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (drama) , once it’s released, would be one of the year’s greatest; or maybe not because its trailer does not reveal anything about the synopsis, but it really looks great. ‘The film is a sequel to the 1987 Academy Award-winning film Wall Street, and the first sequel Stone has directed.’

The Blind Side

Sun, Jan 24 2010 08:45 AM

the-blind-side

It was supposed to be another Titanic as i was told.

The movie is based on the book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game” which narrates the true story of Michael Oher  - a current pro NFL player. The movie seemed too slow to me, I felt it was taking forever, although it picks up pace later on. the themes and issues tackled throughout the movie were interesting. The blind side, which I found out has a technical meaning in football, also relates to the blind side in everyday life. I still can’t see why Sandra Bullock received an award for this movie. I got a “tears and depression” alert for this movie, very untrue.. wasn’t sad at all. Above the average movie, but never a blockbuster.

Don’t miss Devdas!

Thu, Jan 21 2010 11:14 AM

devdas

Okay. Jab We Met was hilarious and you guys who watched it really liked it, and I thought it was a one-time thing. It seems that MBC got positive feedback. This time they are dubbing Devdas (one of Bollywood’s greatest), and yes the Kuwaiti accent will be used again!

MBC MAX – Friday @21:00 KSA

If you missed last week’s movie, I urge you don’t this time!

Cinescape Kuwait is getting on my nerves

Sun, Jan 17 2010 03:06 PM

Cinema

Okay, I do agree that bachelors have to be separated from families in cinemas due to religious reasons etc… and that if it were up to the company itself they would have this rule broken and tossed from their rear window.

However what I don’t understand is if they are segregating bachelors, while giving the families better seating areas, then why should the bachelors be paying the same amount of money as the families. This is how I see it: Pay more for a better service, and in this case better seating means a better service. If every individual regardless of gender and marital status pays the same amount, then they should all be getting the exact same treatment and therefore be seated in the same area. I repeat; it is unfair that bachelors should be paying the same amount as the families while getting a worse service. More specifically in the 3D IMAX screens, since it is the ultimate experience for any customer to be seated further back due to the vast size of the screen. Those who sit in the bottom half of the seating area (bachelors) lose the sense of the “ultimate experience” because the screen becomes too big to comprehend the movie in a single eye sight, and therefore that’s what I would like to call, money down the drain.

As mentioned earlier since this is out of the company’s hands and has to do with religious law imposed by a stronger authority in this country, I would suggest the following:

1. Make it cheaper for bachelors in cinemas where they are seated in the bottom half of the seating area.

2. Many venues in Kuwait have a day for “females” and a day for “families only”, and since families are getting the better deal in the Kuwaiti cinemas, create a “bachelors day” for entering cinema, where there will be no seating segregation. It should be publicized and well known to every cinema customer, for if a female comes or family members were to enter the cinema on that day, they would already know in advance that it’s a “bachelor’s day”.

3. Specifically, for the 3D IMAX theatres, I highly recommend instead of separating the families horizontally, giving the ultimate experience to the families, you should split the seating area vertically in some way in order to make it fair for all parties to be satisfied.

4. As a suggestion, children that are old enough to understand a movie but not that old to go out by themselves should be given cheaper tickets if entering with an elder guardian, since it could get really expensive for a parent to take his children to a movie.

I just hope someone hears my suggestions, and things start changing. What do you think? What problems have you encountered from the cinescape Kuwait?

DON’T miss Jab We Met!

Fri, Jan 15 2010 08:43 PM

JabWeMet-781970

I can’t believe it. It’s hilarious just to think about it. I was told yesterday about it and thought it was a joke. I just checked mbc.net; it is true, Jab We Met is a Bollywood production released in 2007, and MBC MAX is airing it in roughly 20 minutes (18:00 GMT) but guess what?? It will be in dubbed in KUWAITi!!

Not Kuwaiti subtitles, but the Kuwaiti accent will be spoken!
