The Blind Side

It was supposed to be another Titanic as i was told.

The movie is based on the book “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game” which narrates the true story of Michael Oher  - a current pro NFL player. The movie seemed too slow to me, I felt it was taking forever, although it picks up pace later on. the themes and issues tackled throughout the movie were interesting. The blind side, which I found out has a technical meaning in football, also relates to the blind side in everyday life. I still can’t see why Sandra Bullock received an award for this movie. I got a “tears and depression” alert for this movie, very untrue.. wasn’t sad at all. Above the average movie, but never a blockbuster.

Don’t miss Devdas!

devdas

Okay. Jab We Met was hilarious and you guys who watched it really liked it, and I thought it was a one-time thing. It seems that MBC got positive feedback. This time they are dubbing Devdas (one of Bollywood’s greatest), and yes the Kuwaiti accent will be used again!

MBC MAX – Friday @21:00 KSA

If you missed last week’s movie, I urge you don’t this time!

Cinescape Kuwait is getting on my nerves

Sun, Jan 17 2010 03:06 PM

Cinema

Okay, I do agree that bachelors have to be separated from families in cinemas due to religious reasons etc… and that if it were up to the company itself they would have this rule broken and tossed from their rear window.

However what I don’t understand is if they are segregating bachelors, while giving the families better seating areas, then why should the bachelors be paying the same amount of money as the families. This is how I see it: Pay more for a better service, and in this case better seating means a better service. If every individual regardless of gender and marital status pays the same amount, then they should all be getting the exact same treatment and therefore be seated in the same area. I repeat; it is unfair that bachelors should be paying the same amount as the families while getting a worse service. More specifically in the 3D IMAX screens, since it is the ultimate experience for any customer to be seated further back due to the vast size of the screen. Those who sit in the bottom half of the seating area (bachelors) lose the sense of the “ultimate experience” because the screen becomes too big to comprehend the movie in a single eye sight, and therefore that’s what I would like to call, money down the drain.

As mentioned earlier since this is out of the company’s hands and has to do with religious law imposed by a stronger authority in this country, I would suggest the following:

1. Make it cheaper for bachelors in cinemas where they are seated in the bottom half of the seating area.

2. Many venues in Kuwait have a day for “females” and a day for “families only”, and since families are getting the better deal in the Kuwaiti cinemas, create a “bachelors day” for entering cinema, where there will be no seating segregation. It should be publicized and well known to every cinema customer, for if a female comes or family members were to enter the cinema on that day, they would already know in advance that it’s a “bachelor’s day”.

3. Specifically, for the 3D IMAX theatres, I highly recommend instead of separating the families horizontally, giving the ultimate experience to the families, you should split the seating area vertically in some way in order to make it fair for all parties to be satisfied.

4. As a suggestion, children that are old enough to understand a movie but not that old to go out by themselves should be given cheaper tickets if entering with an elder guardian, since it could get really expensive for a parent to take his children to a movie.

I just hope someone hears my suggestions, and things start changing. What do you think? What problems have you encountered from the cinescape Kuwait?

JabWeMet-781970

I can’t believe it. It’s hilarious just to think about it. I was told yesterday about it and thought it was a joke. I just checked mbc.net; it is true, Jab We Met is a Bollywood production released in 2007, and MBC MAX is airing it in roughly 20 minutes (18:00 GMT) but guess what?? It will be in dubbed in KUWAITi!!

Not Kuwaiti subtitles, but the Kuwaiti accent will be spoken!

Law Abiding Citizen

I just finished watching this movie. It was nice watching it although I felt that the directors went a bit too far in exaggeration. The plot/story is nice, I wonder how the movie had been if Kevin Spacy replaced Gerard Butler and had a hand in the script.

Tyranny and Gasps of Freedom

Some days ago, my professor was discussing the implications of the fall of the Berlin wall.  In an immediate response I said, “I don’t understand the symbolism of Germans celebrating the fall every year, and symbolically ‘crossing over’ a wall that no longer exists.”  He then explained how the fall of the wall was an unforeseen event, and how people across the world just picked up and went to Germany to see the wall being torn down.  “Unfortunately,” he said “your generation can’t capture the significance of that event because you were either too young, or not yet born.”  He then recommended watching a German movie (subtitled) called “The Lives of Others.”  After reading some reviews and realizing that it was awarded the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 2008, I bought it from iTunes.  I was simply fascinated!

An astounding tale of Stasi (the state security in East Germany) intrusion on the daily lives of citizens, and an unmatched depiction of an individual’s capacity to change. “The Lives of Others” is a truly fascinating political thriller, which I highly recommend it to all those over 18 (its rated R).

Capitalism: A Love Story

Capitalism: A Love Story

We just came out from Michael Moore’s new movie “Capitalism: A Love Story”. I (FAH) am not actually a fan of Michael Moore’s movies but I have to admit that I liked this one. On the other hand, I (Alvaro) love conspiracy theories, and unlike FAH, adore Michael Moore’s work, especially when he makes people think to connect the dots.
The movie simply talks about what lead us to the current economic downturn / credit-crisis and what’s the only resolution!

Don’t miss it, it will be in theaters this Thursday!

Review: This is it movie

Thu, Oct 29 2009 12:42 PM

This is it

Last night, I watched Michael Jackson’s “This is it” movie at the IMAX theatre in 360 mall. It’s a 2 hour movie where you get to watch MJ’s last rehearsals for his final tour “This is it.” I was amazed by the preparations and the hard effort that was put in the rehearsals; they certainly wanted it to be something huge. They change the background of the stage for almost every song. The stage preparations for thriller and smooth criminal were astonishing. Now most importantly, Michael Jackson looked normal during his rehearsals. He didn’t loose his moves; he can still dance and the music was live and not play back.

Overall, it was worth watching the movie. It’s in theatres for two weeks only.

This is it trailer

Michael Jackson

I guess a lot of people wanted to go to Michael Jackson’s “This is it” tour but couldn’t because of his death. Well in 2 days, MJ fans can pre order tickets for the “This is it” movie that will be shown worldwide on the 28th of October. For some reason, the movie will be shown for 2 weeks only and it clearly says in the trailer that the movie will be shown worldwide, but I’m not sure if that includes Kuwait. Anyway you can watch the trailer below. .

Under the Sea 3D

Mon, Sep 14 2009 04:30 PM

Under the Sea

We just finished watching the new IMAX movie Under the Sea 3D at the Scientific Centre . Honestly speaking it’s a true 40 minute experience of the unknown world under the sea. You can feel the sea cobra coming towards you to grab a bite! The movie shows some creatures that we didn’t even know of their existence like the sea dragon. We won’t spoil the movie. Enjoy the gallery below.

The most thing we loved is the conclusion and how everything is wrapped up! (Narration by Jim Carrey and in Arabic Yousef Mustafa)

You can also find the trailer on Mark’s blog. The movie will be shown on the first day of Eid.

Update

Since Mark’s blog is blocked by KEMS, you can watch the trailer here

Again, Thanks Hind

The International

I saw this movie during the weekend. This won’t take long, certainly it’s not Die Hard, nor it is The Bourne Ultimatum; but this movie is amazing! I loved it, loved the way it tackles issues of arms conspiracies between the west and especially the Middle East.

They control your money. They control your government. They control your life. And everybody pays.

Do I Love You Man?

Sun, Aug 9 2009 12:06 AM

Anwar

I saw this movie (I Love You, Man) a week ago. I found it hilarious, but also in the same time offensive!

So here is the deal. In the movie, Jason Segel’s dog is named Anwar, and it is clearly articulated in the movie that the dog was named “after Anwar Al Sadat, former president of Egypt.. because they look exactly alike!” those were the direct quotations from the movie.

Now I know that comedians from Conan O’brien to Jay Leno enjoyed making fun of President Bush, that’s their country, their policy, they’re free to do that. But I guess the producers of this film went way behind enemy lines, and were too shallow to allow fo this to happen.

I remembered about it a while ago when I saw a briefing on Al Arabiya news about the story, it seems that Al Sadat’s daughter sued the producers!

First it was the Qatari license plate from the movie Taken, now a direct insult to a former Arabian president, what’s up next?
